Weekly Quick Collage: Meditation

Meditation
mixed media collage, 6 x 4 inches

Allow

There is no controlling life.
Try corralling a lightning bolt,
containing a tornado. Dam a
stream and it will create a new
channel. Resist, and the tide
will sweep you off your feet.
Allow, and grace will carry
you to higher ground. The only
safety lies in letting it all in –
the wild and the weak; fear,
fantasies, failures and success.
When loss rips off the doors of
the heart, or sadness veils your
vision with despair, practice
becomes simply bearing the truth.
In the choice to let go of your
known way of being, the whole
world is revealed to your new eyes

Weekly Quick Collage: Life

Life
collage, 7 x 7 inches

She said she usually cried at least once each day not because she was sad, but because the world was so beautiful and life was so short.
~ author unknown

To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can.
~ Danny Kaye

What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.
~ Crowfoot

Weekly Quick Collage: Let Me Know

I have to confess that this collage was not all that "quick." Originally, it was done rather quickly, but I decided I wasn't satisfied with it, so I continued to work on it, adding more layers until the part that said "Let me know" was covered up. This in keeping with my resolution to push myself farther, to experiment and learn new things about making art. More and more, I'm employing my "throw away your first five (or ten) ideas" strategy, and beginning to break new ground, as they say.

Let me keep my mind on what
matters,
which is my work,
which is mostly standing still and
learning to be
astonished.
