Weekly Quick Collage: Persimmon

My quick collages are what you might call collage "sketches", usually made in a short amount of time from things I find laying around in my scrap piles. I find them to be fun as well as a great 'loosening up' exercise.

Every day
I see or hear
that more or less

kills me
with delight,
that leaves me
like a needle

in the haystack
of light.
It was what I was born for -
to look, to listen,

to lose myself
inside this soft world -
to instruct myself
over and over

in joy,
and acclamation.
Nor am I talking
about the exceptional,

the fearful, the dreadful,
the very extravagant -
but of the ordinary,
the common, the very drab,

the daily presentations.
Oh, good scholar,
I say to myself,
how can you help

but grow wise
with such teachings
as these -
the untrimmable light

of the world,
the ocean's shine,
the prayers that are made
out of grass?

Drawing Challenge: Vein

Heart of the World
mixed media

This is an older piece that I thought would work perfectly for this drawing challenge - Veronica said it was okay that it wasn't new.  Hope you enjoy! Be sure to go to Veronica's blog to check out all the other interpretations of this theme!

Searching for ORANGE (RoyGBiv)

Jennifer Coyne Qudeen's and Julie Booth's Searching For Roy G Biv blog hop has brought us to the second color in the visible spectrum of light, ORANGE.  February, at least here in Kentucky, is fairly devoid of orange. Brown and gray we have in plenty, but orange - not so much. Therefore, I decided I'd have to search among my own artwork for a color so bright.

Drawing Challenge: Aqua

mixed media collage

The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.
                                                                                                                                   ~ Carl Rogers

It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that determines which way we will go.
                                                                                                                                     ~ Jim Rohn

Veronica Roth is the hostess of this drawing challenge with the theme AQUA, so head on over to her blog to check out the links to the other artists! I can't wait to see what everyone came up with!

Lost I

Lost I

ingredients: vintage book covers, vintage maps, vintage book pages, image transfer, watercolor pencils, vintage cloth, vintage stamp. stitching, feather

I may explain more about this piece if I'm able to work up the courage to talk about it. For now, suffice it to say that this is how I've been feeling.  Life brings us strange changes sometimes, and it can be difficult to know how to cope.

Weekly Quick Collage: Have Patience

Have Patience

Here’s the sexy white hot truth about creativity.
It’s a religious experience.
It’s a transcendental adventure.
It’s the losing of the daily self and entering the magic kingdom.
You come back bigger.
You come back satiated.
You come back sweeter.
You come back with wings and fins and new toes that seek for higher ground.
You never come back the same.
~Tama J. Kieves
