Please Critique (ideas? suggestions?)
This is a new piece I've been working on, and I'm not sure what it needs. Please excuse the photo, I just ran outside and snapped it real quick so I could get it on here, but hopefully you can get a general idea what it looks like. It's a collage done on top of an old watercolor, using mostly maps as collage materials. I thought it was almost finished, but am now second guessing myself. I'd REALLY appreciate any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions from all you artists out there. After all, as they say, two (or three, or ten) heads are better than one. Thanks!

Boy Sharmon, that's a tough one. It looks great to me. I like the way you incorporated maps to create the imagery here. The birds turned out cool and the motion of the figure walking. I find it very interesting. Maybe if you sleep on it and see what you think in the morning? Who knows, maybe you'll have a dream about it and all will be clear! Hope so. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kathleen.
ReplyDeleteI imagine if you had posted it and let us see it as 'the new work' it would've been simply lovely.
It's a strong composition, the movement is excellent and the use of the maps is apparent and at the same time understated.
you, of course, have to be the one who really hears the piece say, "Leave me now, I can stand on my own."
Good luck with stepping back for a bit.
I agree with everyone else! I'm wondering what in it is saying unfinished to you? Maybe it's asking you to explore the techniques or subject matter further as a series, rather than changing anything within this one piece? Love that you did some asemic writing in there, right? The woman almost appears to have a constellation within her, but that's map, too? I think it's a very cool piece :)

ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone, for your kind comments and support. The problem was with the composition; I think it's better now, though. You can judge for yourself when I can get a pic to post. Happy Arting!
